Then i ran into another tone mapping tutorial and gave it another go. This one has no added colors, just a lot of faders and contrast/gamma slides. This render is created using Photoshop's buit-in HDR import functionality. It's much less psychedellic, but i like how it still looks slightly surrealistic.

| My first (successful) HDR picture |
[Apr. 25th, 2010|02:03 pm] |
HDR Kicks ass. I don't really have the camera for it (although i'm seriously thinking about upgrading), but the web is full of tricks to home brew something that at least looks HDR. The image below is the view from the backside of our apartement. I made it in clear daylight. I used Photoshop to make masks for all three pictures. Not quite happy with the lack of color, i added 3 layers of different colors and tied them to color ranges i selected manually (yellow to brighten up the trees, blue to eh... blue up the sky and red because red kicks ass).

The three pictures it was made of:

| Evoluon desktop wallpaper |
[Oct. 11th, 2009|11:53 pm] |
Because i felt like it, i ripped a picture of the Evoluon in Eindhoven, and made a background of it. And then for no reason at all, i decided to put it up here. |

We're finding out if she's totalled. Nobody got hurt and for what it's worth: it wasn't me. Maybe i'm a car mechanic for the upcoming few days... |

Our new roomie! Her name is Lizzy, because it suits her well and both in Dutch and English, rhymes with "Where is she?" It was my birthday gift for Cox, who turns 25 tomorrow.
Lizzy is 8 weeks old and she's with us one day now. So far we know she likes shoes (yay Cox!), bouncing balls (yay me!), attention and people, doesn't mind close up flashing, climbs like a salamander, thinks she can handle Cox' dad (not a bad idea either) and hates the chord of the camera. This is one of the very few pictures that's not all blurry and shaken. |

I don't know if i need anyones permission to post this picture, and i really don't know if you like seeing it. Maybe i'll remove it if i change my mind, but for now, here's me expressing the most grief i've ever felt.

| Awesomeness And Sourness |
[May. 15th, 2009|05:07 pm] |
I was waiting for a good moment to do an update on how awesome things are going, but the last few days, some of those things are really turning sour...
First of all, Cox and i moved to a house in Eindhoven. My uncle tries to sell his house, but because of the crisis, this could take quite some time. In the mean time, we get to live in the house for little rent. The deal is we make the house look cozy when potential buyers drop by. This is awesome. The sour part is the first viewers were announced yesterday. We cleaned the house as good as we could (but we're still moving, so we've a lot of boxes etc.). My uncle was furious with us. He said the place is a mess. We made pretty good agreements, but it turns out we have to remake those...
My grandfather was diagnosed with cancer. The cool part is how he convinced the hospital to go for the entire cure. He's 92 (usually too old for treatment), but he said he intends to reach 100. He still has a wife and a lot of hobbies. The treatment went really well, we are all very proud. He was getting better and he seemed really happy. That is awesome. The sour part is, that they recently did a thorough scan and found that the cancer is probably not gone entirely. This is really really sour.
A lot of other things are really going well for us. We have a lot of gigs, i love living closer to my family, and work (as far as i can concentrate today) is really great. We're tired and stressed, but generally happy. I really didn't want to do a rant/complain post, but i couldn't think of much else than getting these things off my chest.
A positive note to give this post some value: Using Portable Photoshop (one .exe, totally clean, don't need to install!!) to create the top-left picture really cheers me up. Check it out!(-: |

| Chickenfoot |
[Mar. 24th, 2009|08:57 am] |
I'm excited like a little kid about this:
I'm lazy (and at work), so i'll let you guys in on the first paragraph Wikipedia has to say about this:
Chickenfoot is the title for the supergroup featuring vocalist Sammy Hagar (ex-VanHalen), bassist Michael "Mikey"Anthony (also ex-Van Halen), guitarist Joe Satriani and drummer Chad Smith (of the Red Hot Chili Peppers). Chickenfoot are currently in the studio, working on a record that is set to be released around April 2009.
They've got a bunch of songs on their site, and it sounds like over-the-top eighties rock, meets Rage Against The Machine, meets well... Chili Peppers and a scent of Satriani madness. These guys deserve a hype for their solo carreer, but getting one for forming a band together is (in my humble and often disregarded opinion) morally inevitable.
Don't take my word for it, check their site! |

| Stick It In Your Eyeball |
[Mar. 23rd, 2009|09:53 am] |
I needed some surgical operation on my left eye and ran into a guy who said he could do it for somewhere around 300 euros. Good deal, i figured, so i lied down while he replaced my lens, or whatever it was he did. When i recovered, his tone changed. He said: "That'll be 30.000 euro's". I replied "You said somewhere around 300!". "Well, yeah, and that just became 30K... Look, you should've agreed on a fixed price if you wanted certainty." His wife came in. She looked like an 80's moviestar playing a housewife. She gave me a you're-so-stupid-and-so-fucked look. I got the feeling she'd seen lots of suckers like me. "39K" he said, "going to 41K if you hesitate one more moment."
I hesitated one more moment. A few things crossed my mind: Is 30K expensive for an eye surgery? Did i have to come up with that money myself? What was wrong with my eye in the first place and would it help if i'd remember? Probably not. This guy tricked me and it sure looked like he knew what he was doing. Then it started to dawn on me i've been warned about this guy, because he was some sort of anitchrist Satan dude. Great... tricked by the devil and owing him 30.000 euros...
The time it bought me, he didn't notify me of any further raises in his price, which gave me some confidence. "Look, 30K is nothing like 300, so you're not getting that much." "We'll see" he said. I wondered how i could have been so stupid to get into this situation with The Devil and wether or not it was smart to make a case out of this. Just don't agree! If you agree on anything, you're fucked! i thought. Then a third option started to dawn on me: Waking up.
Anyone care to speculate on what it means if you dream about your own eye surgery, or lousy deals with the devil? Or is this what you get for watching stuff like Money Masters. |
